I agree with you so muh Ernest... The policies and actions towards 'ending' poverty are mostly designed and implemented by those who don't even know how poverty looks like. They read it, they
convert it into numerical codes, but some have not even looked at its face...

Are you saying that Ghana lacks a long term Vision of its' purpose?

May I suggest that the weakness of "Democracy" (as a system of Governance) is that it can only work in the 'short to medium term' of two to three electoral cycles, while 'the Free Market Economy' works, thinks and exists in timeframes of decades.

The “Westminster System” by the very nature of ‘Electoral Cycles’ ‘thinks’ in blocks of time that match the frequency of Elections. In Australia, my home, it is ‘Blocks of 4 Years’ between elections. In Britain, it is a 5 year cycle.

There are really only TWO questions necessary for understanding the “Westminster System” and they are:

How do ‘we’ GAIN Power?

How do ‘we’ KEEP Power?

When these two questions are asked of the ACTIONS of Political Parties, the so called True Agendas of these Political alliances are more easily seen, understood and capable of analysis. From analysis comes understanding.

The “Free Market Economy” - better called Capitalism here for my purposes - plans in timeframes of decades and Billions of dollars. In Australia, we have a gas Field called “Gorgon Gas Reserve”. Apparently it will be ‘worth’ US$50 Billion over its’ lifetime. Donations to the Political parties in Australia of US$50,000 will ensure that the field will be developed.

That is buying certainty at 0.000001% of the estimated revenue the gas Field will produce.

So, am I saying that Australian political parties have corruptly taken monies to ‘allow’ this specific Development to ‘go ahead’?

MY answer is that “I do not know and cannot find out” because: in Australia, the Political Parties do not have to show who gives them money, how much money they are given or even how the money is exchanged.

Apply the two questions of:

How do ‘we’ GAIN Power?

How do ‘we’ KEEP Power?

And you start to get an idea about some of the ways that the “Westminster System” corrupts the Principal of Universal Suffrage*.

* From Wikipedia, the free encyclopaedia

Suffrage (from the Latin suffragium, meaning "voting tablet", and figuratively "right to vote", and originally a term for the pastern bone used to cast votes) is the civil right to vote, or the exercise of that right. In that context, it is also called political franchise or simply the franchise. Suffrage is very valuable to the extent that there are opportunities to vote (e.g., initiatives, referendums, or elections). Therefore, suffrage varies in two dimensions: who is eligible to vote and voting opportunities. Suffrage was also a part of the Jacksonian democracy. In simpler words, suffrage means the right to vote.
In most democracies, eligible voters can vote in elections of representatives. Voting on substantiate issues via initiative may be available in some jurisdictions but not others. For example, Switzerland permits initiatives at all levels of government whereas United States does not offer initiatives at the federal level or in many states. That new constitutions must be approved by referendum is considered a de facto natural law.
Many argue that - in fact - Universal Suffrage exerts the weakest level of Societal Control over the Body Politic or the Free Market Economy (Capitalism). I believe that this is true in my Country, Australia.

What is in the ‘best interests’ of the people of Ghana? What an interesting question!

I can only support your belief that long term National Goals are a good way to unite a people to achieving these Goals, in a harmonious manner. I wish you and the People of Ghana well in your Journey. Peace be with you all.
